'You know this is completely insane right? Your going to get yourself killed... do you know how big some of those guys are? and they don't have any other women there..."
I smirked at the words. My sister was a complete worry wart.
"Just really think about what your doing? It's not too late to use that scholarship for college you know. well call me later okay? I love you."
I deleted the message. I'd call her... just not right away. To her life was either college and some mediocre office job or marrying some well off guy and having kids... like she did. I didn't want either. I worked my butt off to get honours but there wasn't anything that I liked more than wrestling. Nothing that fired me up like punching someone in the gut or issuing a swift kick to the head of someone weaker than myself. Someone who underestimated me because of my size.
I'm sure I was going to get laughed at. I was also sure that I would probably lose a couple matches too but... I would find my groove and I would rise above.
I walked out of the hotel bathroom with one towel around my head and the other around my body. If this worked out, I'd find an apartment. My contract was for 6 months, after that I was on management's good graces.
Scanning the open webpage on my laptop I can see that nothing had changed as far as news or promos from my opponents. Still the laughable swabble that had been there the last few days. Pulling off the towel around my head I start to dry my hair when there is a knock on the door.
I don't even care that all I have covering my virtue is a towel and pull the door open as far as the chain will allow. There's a man standing there and what appears to be another man carrying a camera behind him
: Ah, are you Cami? I'm supposed to be doing an interview... for MCCW...
He seems a little unsure but I don't fail to notice that his eyes go directly to what little of the towel clad body he can make out through the crack in the door.
Cami: Oh right... I totally forgot. Your Daniel Kaye right?
The man nods still a little shell shocked that I'd be so bold to answer the door like this.
I open the door and both him and the camera man take a second to take in my appearance fully. Long wet dark curls, towel wrapped around my small frame, my legs exposed from the knees down. He looks up after appraising my legs to catch my smirk and he offers me a totally arrogant smile back. The camera man is blushing however and I can't help but appreciate that he's at least some what modest, unlike Mr. Kaye here.
Cami: Mr. Kaye... did you see something you liked just now?
His smile faded.
Cami: Yeah... thought so. Anyway, you can set up in the main room there and I'm going to go and get dressed. Make yourselves comfortable but I better not come back out to catch either or both of you pulling the 'naked man'.
I flip my hair and walk away. It takes only minutes for me to dress, comb my hair and add a little bit of eye makeup. Not exactly my full gear but I wanted this guy out of my room as soon as possible, he'd given me the creeps from the moment I caught him picturing me without the towel.
When I came back out, they were both waiting for me. I offered a smile and sat in an empty chair. Daniel sat in the other and motioned for the other guy to start the camera.
Daniel Kaye: I'm here with one of MCCW's newest recruits, Cami Paige, self proclaimed princess. Cami, might I say that it's a pleasure to be meeting with you today. It's no wonder that you consider yourself royalty with your looks.
I smile. Suck up.
Cami: Well Daniel, it's not all about looks. It's about the skill and fortitude necessary to be able to move all the way to the top. When I started training nearly a year ago, I was determined that I was going to do this so that I could be the best there was. One thing I've always done was reach a goal and then quickly figure out what the next one was and move on to it. Never stopping. Never backing down. After I win on Saturday, I'll just keep moving forward... nothing ever good came from looking back.
Daniel Kaye: Speaking of looking back, it hasn't gone un-noticed that not only are you going out there for the very first time in a real match but your also MCCW's first female competitor. What are your thoughts on that?
Cami: Were you not just listening? Just because this is my debut match in any organization, doesn't mean that I'm a push over. My size is going to throw a lot of people off. Yes I'm only 5'3. Yes I'm barely over 100lbs and Yes, I am the first woman to grace the halls of MCCW but that doesn't make me any less of a legitimate competitor.
Daniel Kaye: And your opponents? They seem to think that they are going to have no trouble defeating you or anyone else in the match.
I smile and cock my head to one side.
Cami: It would be foolish to go into a match saying you think you'll be defeated... who does that... I mean really... The difference between me and the others... I'm actually as good as I say I am. Let's see... who is it I'm facing.... Right... We've got this guy who not only wears a mask but he also can't even come up with a name for himself.... just 'unknown'. Is that supposed to be threatening or something? I've never laughed harder when he proceeded to tell me to 'know my role and shut my mouth'. Now what role would that be exactly? The one where I beat the living piss out of you and leave you for dead in that ring? Sounds about right to me... so as for shutting my mouth... hmmm... I forget that you people don't know me yet but you soon will and shutting my mouth is not something I'll be well known for. Now who's next... oh yeah... Shogun. The guy that in so many words has said that he's the shit around here. Please. I've seen miniature dogs more intimidating than you or your words. Go on... keep pretending that you scare me... if that's what helps you sleep at night... be my guest. Just know that when it comes down to us in that ring, I am in no way shape or form intimidated by little boys that pretend to be bigger than they are.
Daniel Kaye: Now what about the last competitor... Cayden King. He's yet to make any kind of statement or promo regarding your match...
I giggled. It throws him off a little.
Cami: Cayden King. A man that probably doesn't deserve to carry a name like that... and a brit too... so you know being British should automatically give you the right to be royalty of some sort right?
Both men are kind of nodding their heads, not realizing that I'm being sarcastic.
Cami: Wrong! Being royalty shouldn't be something that is just handed to you because of where you were born or who your parents were... it's about more than that. It's about attitude, about entitlement, about deserving it. I deserve it. I worked my ass off to get the best grades, get to the top of every single club, I got every award....and you may ask me why... well the answer is simple.. and I'll say it again, just in case you didn't hear me the first time, I deserve it. Cayden King was luckily enough to be born with a good last name, we'll see if everything else lives up to that reputation. There is only one person here that deserves to be given the title of royalty and that's me. The fact that he hasn't even made an appearance around here just shows that he has little respect for anyone, including himself.
Daniel Kaye: Interesting...ah... take on things Cami...
He has a look that I see quite often on people after I've given them the truth according to me... the princess.
Daniel Kaye: Thank you for your time Cami.
The Camera shuts off and both men start to pack up.
Daniel turns to me, with that smirk on his face again.
Daniel Kaye: So you really think your going to win against 3 men twice your size?
I smile again, same trademark tilt to my head, a sweetness to my voice.
Cami: If it were all about size then you'd always lose... wouldn't you Mr. Kaye?
His face starts to go red and I knew that I'd angered him but he wasn't about to say anything. I got the impression that he hadn't exactly figured me out just yet. Was I crazy? Was I dumb? He didn't know so until then he was probably just labelling me unpredictable and a liability.
He was gone from the room as quickly as he'd appeared and I liked that arrangement just fine.
Watch out world, Cami Paige was breaking out and anyone that gets in my way will suffer the consequences.
I smirked at the words. My sister was a complete worry wart.
