“If one is but secure at the foundation, he will not be pained by departure from minor details or affairs that are contrary to expectation. But in the end, the details of a matter are important. The right and wrong of one's way of doing things are found in trivial matters.”
― Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai
Hunter Maverick is sitting at home in his sparely decorated flat, reading. Its about the only thing he does, except meditating and training. He looks over at the his pride and joy, his books including The art of war, The Book of the five rings and the one he is reading, Hagakure Book of the samurai.
All the titles stacked on the three shelf's originate from the Eastern hemisphere, he is obsessed with the way of thinking of the philosophy and spirituality of the far east.
Slowly he lays the book down, carefully, so he wont bend the edges of the book. He looks around in the empty room, only things here are his books, his chair and bed alongside a TV and his shrine, as he likes to call it. Its made up of pictures posters and his collection of DVDs all containing the careers of his hero's, Keji Muto,Jushin Liger, Ultimo Dragon and a few others. They are his inspiration and his goal is to one day be able to count himself as good as them.
In deep thought, almost like a meditative trance, he walks on into the small kitchen. He can feel the hunger taking him over as he goes closer to the fridge and opens the door, the hunger spurs him on, he cant wait to still its craving
Bloody hell!!!
His head and shoulders sinks down, the fridge is empty, he slams the door shut and starts looking in the cupboards and drawers, but no luck. A sigh escapes from him as he walks over and grabs his jacket, fishing the wallet out of the right pocket. He looks into it and sighs once more, there is barely enough money for a meal.He puts on his jacket and puts on his shoes, before walking out the door hoping to find something to eat.
“Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams.”
― Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai
Hunter has been walking for what seems like ages searching for a low priced meal, but still hasn't had any luck. His hunger is slowly starting to go away, the fresh air helps him shift his mind on different matters. Matters that he knows he needs to take care of, cause soon, he will have to step into the MCCW ring once more. Although he has already wrestled twice for the company, he is also down two loses, this time he wants it to be different, he wants to win.
Even though he faced situations like this before, he has never felt the fear of losing another match. He resents this feeling, even the thought of it shouldn't be on his mind. Win or lose it shouldn't matter as long as he follows the way of the warrior he wants to be, but in the end he has to accept that no matter what his intentions are, he is still just a man.
As his frustration with himself grows he tries to shift his mind onto different matters, his opponent. Taufik a great wrestler and warrior following the way of Islam. Thoughts about the sentence start bouncing around in his head. Cause although he knows what he means by it, the rest of the world doesn't and sadly the words warrior and Islam isn't a great fit in the western world. He ponders on it for a moment, before moving on, he must focus he is facing an opponent, not a religion.
In his heart he knows he can overcome this adversary, Taufik is tough and technically profound, but he is not as quick as Hunter. He knows he has to keep his distance and be evasive, cause it only takes one mistake and his opponent will sink his clutches into him and suplex him to hell and back. So he needs to keep sticking and moving, but still he needs to get close enough in the end. there is nothing to gain in over thinking it, but he cant let the thought go until he walks by a small Chinese restaurant, where the sent of food catches his nose and releases a growling from his stomach and he just needs to follow his hunger inside.
“Be true to the thought of the moment and avoid distraction. Other than continuing to exert yourself, enter into nothing else, but go to the extent of living single thought by single thought.”
― Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai
Maverick is sitting at a table in the restaurant and has finished a big meal of duck, veggies and rice, he feels content and in high spirits as he asks for the check and leans back with a smile on his face
: Excuse me?
He is interrupted by a young lady, who has come up to his table, Hunter smiles she is a slim pretty thing and that fact scares the living daylights out of him, he may be a warrior when in the ring, but his one weak spot is talking to women.
Hunter: Uhm yes
: Hi, I'm Hayley Duggan from MCCW, aren't you Hunter Maverick?
Hunter Uhm yes
Hayley: Would you give me an interview on your match tomorrow?
Hunter: Uhm yes
Hayley: Great... So you're wrestling Taufik, a guy we know has a great technical skills and who tends to have a mean streak, do you thing you can beat him?
Hunter: Uhm yes
Hayley: Well you are coming off two loses, will this influence your determination to win this match?
Hunter: Uhm yes
Hayley: Will we see a more determent and focused Hunter Maverick in the future?
Hunter: Uhm yes
Hayley: well that was all thank you so much Hunter, I'll see you tomorrow night at the show
She gets up and leaves Hunter stares after her
Hunter: Uhm yes
Just then the waiter comes with the bill and hands it to Hunter
Waiter: Cash or Credit?
Hunter pulls out his wallet and looks inside it, then looks down on the bill, sinking hard he sends an awkward smile to the waiter
Hunter:Uhm this is embarrassing, but I don't have enough money on me at this moment, but I can....
The waiter interrupts him
Waiter: you eat you pay or me call Bobo!
Hunter: who is Bobo?
The waiter turns and points at the near 400lbs chef standing in the kitchen chopping up something with a giant meat cleaver
Again Hunter gulps as he sends the waiter another smile
Hunter: Can I do the dishes?
The waiter shouts something in Chinese and Bobo comes out of the kitchen and grabs Hunter, dragging him back out to the kitchen.
